Hello and welcome to e-nnovate Quarterly,
We have seen tremendous growth this quarter and expanded our user base dramatically. Thank you all for signing up! I also wanted to thank the team consiting mostly of full-time researchers who only work part time on e-nnovate - great job!
You, the users, are our most valuable resource. I am pleased that this quarter's story is about e-nnovate's user survey. Please continue to let us know what we can do better to make your life easier.
Thanks for using e-nnovate,
German Eichberger, CEO and Jared Goor, User Representative

Feature of the Quarter |
|
|
|
|
Formula Editor: A LaTeX based editor, versatile and powerful. Equations are integrated directly into the text or can be cut and pasted. We have added a number of ‘one click’ buttons for common characters and symbols, including a chemical equation module. Additionally, we have a cheat page listing the code for almost any other symbol you may need. This formula editor will continue to be ugraded.
Email Entries: Emails sent to insert@e-nnovate.com from your user email address will be automatically posted into your default folder, including attachments. Now you can store and digitally time stamp emailed data or communications with colleagues, making it a part of your official records.
We have also added ‘One Click Backup’ in your settings tab and an improved commenting system for collaborations. Try them out.

Story: e-nnovate User Survey |
|
|
|
Last Quarter we asked you, our users, how we should improve our service and what future directions we should take. Below you see an excerpt from our survey:

The most wanted feature was a formula editor. As you can tell from our features of the quarter… we did it! Your feedback shapes e-nnovate, so don’t hesitate to contact us with feedback or suggestions (info@e-nnovate.com).
There was also support for an ad supported e-nnovate e-notebook. We are looking into this option, which would feature free access to e-nnovate, free file storage, many of our current security features, and ads tailored to your interests. Note that e-nnovate is currently ad free, and the paid version will continue to be so. |

Scientist of the Quarter |

In this place we will interview a user each quarter. Please send nominations to info@e-nnovate.com and we might interview the nominee in the future. This quarter’s user of the month is Farbod Nicholas Rahaghi, PhD, a researcher from University of CA, San Diego in NIH's Medical Science Training Program and a long time user. We sat down with him for a brief interview.
EQ: Can you briefly describe your research?
FNR: ‘We work on glucose sensors which can be implanted in tissue to measure glucose levels in the human body. The goal is to develop a sensor which when combined with an insulin pump can stabilize a diabetic patient's blood sugar. My research is in defining the characteristics of the blood glucose signal from normal and diabetic patients and using this information to better design sensor and pump algorithms.
EQ: That sounds pretty interesting. How did e-nnovate help you with that?
FNR: I do most of my work with Matlab and e-nnovate was able to integrate seamlessly with the software. Additionally I was getting animal data from another researcher in the lab and we used e-nnovate to track the data. I was also sharing data with a researcher at UC Davis for a study on diabetic retinopathy.
EQ: Tell us more about those collaborations…
FNR: Well, instead of sending e-mails back and forth or using ftp servers we were able to have a direct collaboration where each of us could comment on each others work. E-nnovate's file sharing and comment features were really useful for us.
EQ: You are now finishing your MD. Does this leave you time for research?
FNR (chuckles): It is really intense in the hospital but sometimes I have a break and can check e-mails. I am glad that my successor can look up my results in e-nnovate and hit the ground running. But I often look through new entries from my collaborators and can download them as audio files to listen to them on my drive to the hospitals. So I am staying abreast…
EQ: Thank you for taking the time and good luck with your MD! |
