Perhaps the greatest limitations of paper information storage is the inflexibility in reorganization of the materials. As the insights in a academic research environment are constantly changing, so does the way in which it makes sense to organize the information. You can view your notes by label, date, Quiktag, or just the most recent ones.

Furthermore, different people organize information differently. Thus digital information storage offers researchers the ability to dynamically reorganize their information in a way that fits their needs best at the time. e-nnovate allows you to create projects, topics and experiments, organizing your information in multiple levels.

Information can be moved between different clusters and you are given the freedom to reorganize your information the best way you see fit.

Features include:

  • Ability to organize by topics of your projects
  • Easily create experiments, catagories, data
  • Use personalized icons (QuickTags) to locate specific experiments or data.
  • Reorganize your information at a later time

Illustrative Case #1: Reorganization of a laboratory notebook

Kate has been working on the preliminary data for her advancement to candidacy. She has performed a series of experiments based on a pharmacologic intervention to inhibit tumor growth.

She began her work 9 month ago thinking, based on what had been observed before, that she would find a difference in the effectiveness of the agents based on the genetic background of the animals. Thus she performed a series of experiments, each group using mice of differing age and genetic backgrounds. After reviewing her data she reached a surprising conclusion that a stronger trend existed between the animal's age and the effectiveness of the agent.

She spoke with her advisor and decided to change her direction in terms of studying the effect of aging on the pharmaceutical intervention.

Using e-nnovate's interface, she was able to quickly recreate a new notebook that reorganized her information in terms of the ages of the animals and not their genetic background. That way she could easily incorporate her new experiments into the old notebook and keep track of what she had already accomplished.
